130226_’Lari’ Section

The ‘Lari’ (Haitian Creole for ‘street’) is the third division of scale and administration. This comprises 5 ‘lakou’s’ (courtyards) each with 20 residences built in a circular form. The inner circumference is residential and small scale commercial and the outer side is large commercial, eg. market space, and also areas which are designed to house the timber based industry. The level change between inside the lari and outside puts the rear industrial program at a 2.5m raise compared to the 0 level lari central area which houses the social and commercial spaces apparent in Haiti within settlements of around 400+ persons.
